US Navy and WWII Veteran, May Brill learned an important lesson at a young age that has stayed with her throughout her remarkable 102 years. “My mother was a very strong woman. She spoke up for women’s rights. She taught me how to stand up and speak up for women’s rights,” May said. Today, she often encounters people who are surprised to learn that women served in the military during World War II. May continues to speak out to change that misconception. “When you speak to people, you’re really teaching them. You have to open your mouth and be heard. That’s the thing that my mother taught me.”
