Happy 242nd Birthday to the U.S. Army

Army

It was the Spring of 1775 and tensions in the colonies had reached a breaking point. Although Patriot leaders had secretly formed a revolutionary government, they did not yet have unified forces prepared to fight. An amateur militia, cobbled together from sharpshooters throughout New England, was still being organized. And then British troops descended upon Lexington and Concord.

What followed was the “shot heard around the world.” The Revolutionary War had begun. From this untrained group of marksmen came the seeds of today’s premier land force. On June 14, 1775, our nation's forefathers established the Continental Army.

242 years later, U.S. Army Soldiers are the best trained, most dedicated and respected in the world. As the largest military branch of our Armed Forces, it is made up of more than 700,000 Soldiers, including active duty and Army Reserve personnel serving many roles. They are doctors, lawyers, and engineers; electricians, computer programmers and helicopter pilots; police officers, logistics experts and civil affairs representatives.

They are Army Strong. And we could not be more proud to wish them our most sincere congratulations. Happy Birthday, U.S. Army and all its Soldiers past and present.
